Dear Blades Elementary School Families,

Reflecting on this amazing year at Blades has helped to remind me of all the wonderful things we’ve accomplished. Pushing our students to work harder, “fail forward”, and strive for their goals has been so exciting to see. Our staff has challenged them to FOCUS on being “problem solvers” and not “answer-getters”. Instilling the idea of having a Growth Mindset has helped them to see that the journey is just as important as the destination. Next year our FOCUS will be to incorporate more CCI (Continuous Classroom Improvement) techniques in our classrooms like individual goal-setting and quality data conversations to drive up the level of innovation and mastery we expect from our students. This FOCUS will help us work smarter...not harder! The Blades staff commitment to our kiddos has never been at a higher peak than it is now!! It is an exciting time for our Bobcats!!

Each student will receive a letter from their teacher in early August (except for incoming Kindergarten). Inside the envelope there will also be a supply list, a description of our arrival and dismissal procedures, and a school calendar. Bus routes will be emailed and posted on the district website.

The Kindergarten Popsicle Play Date/Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, from 6:00-7:00pm. This is an orientation event for our new kindergarteners that will give the students an opportunity to meet all the kindergarten teachers and students in their grade level. It’s also an opportunity to hear about the curriculum and expectations for the students and families. In addition, students will have their first ride on a Mehlville school bus!! We suggest that you bring your child’s supplies this night so that their first day is as stress free and easy as possible.

Our first big event is Blades Welcome Back Night! It is a great time for students to come to school and meet their new teacher and visit their new home/classroom for the school year. It will be held on Monday, August 12. Grades 4 & 5 will come from 5:00-6:00pm and Grades 1-3 will come from 6:30-7:30pm. Grades 4 & 5 will meet as a whole in the gym and library to discuss expectations before moving onto their homerooms. Grades 1-3 will go straight to their classrooms. This allows you to meet with your child’s teacher and learn about the classroom curriculum, routines, and procedures. Once again, we ask that you bring your student’s supplies with you to help make the first morning of school run more smoothly.

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 13!! We know families will be wanting to park and bring their students on the first day, but we highly suggest having them ride the bus or go through the parent drop off line as soon as possible to help them get into the swing of things.

The Blades Bobcat Boosters (BBB), our parent organization, will be hosting a Blades Block Party on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at 6:00pm behind the school. We will have food trucks, dessert, a bouncy house, and games for the family. Don’t forget to add it to your calendar NOW!!

It is an honor and pleasure to spend each day with your children. Thank you so much for trusting us with them. Please enjoy your summer break! Travel safe, read a few good books (20 minutes a day), and get ready for an awesome 2019-2020 school year!!

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me personally at 314-467-7301. Take care Blades Family and Have a GREAT Summer!!  #bladesbobcats
